DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for confirming the authenticity of an email message by using an electronic signature. When DomainKeys Identified Mail is activated for a specific domain, a public cryptographic key is published to the global DNS system and a private one is stored on the mail server. If a new email is sent, a signature is issued using the private key and when the email message is received, the signature is validated by the incoming POP3/IMAP server using the public key. In this way, the recipient can easily distinguish if the email message is genuine or if the sender’s email address has been spoofed. A mismatch will occur if the content of the email message has been altered in the meantime as well, so DKIM can also be used to ensure that the sent and the delivered email messages are identical and that nothing has been added or removed. This email authentication system will enhance your email safety, since you can verify the authenticity of the important email messages that you receive and your colleagues can do the same with the messages that you send them. Based on the given email service provider’s policies, an email that fails the test may be deleted or may end up in the receiver’s inbox with a warning notification.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Web Hosting

If you obtain one of the web hosting that we are offering, the DomainKeys Identified Mail feature will be enabled as standard for any domain name that you add to your shared web hosting account, so you won’t have to set up any records or to activate anything manually. When a domain is added in the Hosted Domains section of our in-house developed Hepsia Control Panel using our NS and MX resource records (so that the email messages related to this domain name will be handled by our cloud web hosting platform), a private key will be issued immediately on our email servers and a TXT resource record with a public key will be sent to the DNS system. All email addresses created with this domain will be protected by DKIM, so if you send emails such as regular newsletters, they will reach their target audience and the receivers will know that they are genuine, as the DKIM feature makes it impossible for unauthorized individuals to forge your e-mail addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Servers

All needed DomainKeys Identified Mail records will be created automatically by our cloud web hosting platform when you add a domain name as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so if you choose to purchase a semi-dedicated package, you will not need to configure anything to be able to take advantage of the email authentication system. The domain name must use our name servers in order for its DNS resource records to be managed by us and if this condition is fulfilled, a private cryptographic key will be generated on our email servers and a public key will be added to the global Domain Name System by a special TXT record. All email addresses that you set up using the domain name will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for 3rd parties to fake any address.
