Every personal computer or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program that communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, together with any apps that are installed on your system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, any app runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. When a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you will be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you select one of our VPS server solutions, you'll have as many as three different Operating Systems to choose from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They're all Linux releases and we offer them instead of offering just one OS, because the applications that you might choose to run on the server could have specific requirements about the software environment. Each of these three has some pros with regard to the available plans that you can later on install, but what's common between them is that they are really secure and dependable and have vast communities that support them. The internet hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your OS choice, in order to provide you with more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need another one later, our tech support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a matter of minutes. We also offer the option to maintain the Operating System on your server up-to-date on a weekly basis.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server solutions - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're totally free so they will not increase the low price of your new web server, but also because they are outstandingly stable and secure. Each one of them is supported by a large community of developers, so you'll be given the option to choose from thousands of software packages that you may install on your server in case the app that you want to work with has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer run on specific OSs only and since we would like to provide you with as much flexibility as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a given OS, we could change it upon request in case it turns out that you'll need a different one. We could also keep your OS updated weekly as part of the additional Managed Services upgrade.
